Joining the wider design team, you will be working on product prototypes through the design of PLC’s, drivers and PCBs.

Design Engineer Required Experience:

  • Related Electrical Engineering qualification.

Role Overview

Candidate Requirements 

  • Qualified to HND / Degree level in an engineering discipline, ideally Mechanical or Product Design.

  • It is essential that you have several years' experience designing using 3D CAD in Mechanical Machinery Design. 
  • Experience of working in a manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • As the Design Manager you will be responsible for updating existing machines and working on new and existing product ranges, with a strong partnership to shop floor and other engineering personnel. 
  • You will take ownership of Design Projects from start to finish. 
  • Management of all design activities from concept through to production validation.
  • The robust design of products in accordance with the department procedures. 
  • Investigating design factors such as function, materials, performance, interchangeability, cost, operational efficiency. 
  • Preparation of Project Engineering data for new product assemblies and components, e.g. 3D / 2D Drawings, BOM's, Technical Specifications. 
  • Customer technical liaison on new projects, ensuring that the designs meet the customer's requirements and often exceed their expectations and remain competitive to achieve sales growth and increase market share.

Mechanical Design Engineer Candidate Requirements

  • HND or suitable mechanical engineering design experience. A Degree would be ideal but isn’t essential.
  • 3D design proficiency - Pro-Engineer / Creo experience is preferred, but isn’t essential. 
  • Have a hands-on approach to engineering design and development.
  • Full system design experience would be preferred. 
  • Any Automotive, Military, Heavy Engineering, Off Highway / Construction Equipment experience would be advantageous.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.

  • The Mechanical Design Engineer will support the generation and delivery of concept and manufacturing design definitions, based on technical specifications, requirements, costs and other constraints.
  • Support the conceptual development for new products.
  • Participate in maintaining relevant engineering processes and procedures.
  • Supporting the identification of business opportunities.
  • Problem solving on existing products and product improvement.
  • Support the evaluation of technical issues in order to develop proposals for investigations and/or solutions.
  • Support assigned projects, ensuring requirements are delivered to plan and budget.
  • Working alongside the customer on product development ensuring delivery of solutions to meet the customer’s requirements.

We have an excellent opportunity for a Senior Design Engineer to join a specialist manufacturing business in Coventry.

Due to the nature of the role, candidates must be eligible to obtain UK security clearance.

Our client is looking for an experienced Senior Design Engineer to oversee the design of customer products as well as develop new innovative engineering solutions. 

Everyday will be different, from liaising with manufacturing and sales, to visiting sensitive defence sites to discuss projects with customers.

You should have sound project management experience and be able to implement design software (i.e. SolidWorks / Inventor / Vault), with the role giving the freedom for you to shape the companies design function going forward.

Prototype Engineer Responsibilities:

  • Build prototype part and jigs for pre=production
  • Design and build test rigs
  • Run test programs
  • Design and manufacture of life cycle testing apparatus
  • From design brief, turn into a working item
  • Creation of prototypes, prototype / production fixtures and checking aids
  • Use of air ramps, hydraulic assisted rigs, basic electronic components, and many other tools
  • Support the team with 3D prototype printing and scanning

Prototype Engineer Requirements:

  • It is essential that you are able to operate manual drilling, milling, grinding machines and lathes
  • CNC knowledge would be beneficial but not essential
  • You must be able to set and operate handpresses and punches
  • Good understanding of engineering drawings and CAD models
  • To have an understanding of metals, plastics and component tolerancing including tolerances stack on multiple components and assemblies
  • Good computer skills
