Duties of a Machine Build Manager

As Special Purpose Machine Build Manager you will lead a multi-disciplined team of technicians to ensure each build is completed on time, within budget and that it’s handed over to the customer with complete satisfaction.  

As part of your role you will also be tasked with managing site services, driving 5S and ensuring all statutory regulations are adhered to.

Requirements of a Machine Build Manager

Have a proven background in leading an engineering team within a special purpose machine build environment. Where you have had direct responsibility for plant performance, achieving targets, process development, mentoring staff, setting and monitoring KPI’s and managing time critical projects.

  • You will ideally be:
  • Qualified to a HNC standard Mechanically  
  • Hold either ILM or NEBSM accreditation. 
  • Have climbed the ranks of engineering from an apprentice level (ideally in toolmaking or mechanical fitting) into a position where you have led a team.

An Estimator with steel experience, is required to join a continually growing, reputable structural company. 

The Steelwork Estimator must be familiar with and fully comply with the requirements of the company’s Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality management systems. You will be required to perform all the necessary functions required to fulfil the duties of a Steelwork Estimator including but not limited to the below:

  • The main works the Steelwork Estimator must be able to undertake is steelwork platforms, walkways, access ways complete with stairs, handrails, etc, structural buildings and cladding, rail, constructions, rail, MOD, utilities, nuclear.


Salary and Hours

  • Salary £35,000 - £45,000 dependant on experience
  • 8:00am - 4.30pm, Monday to Friday

Essential Skills of the Steelwork Estimator

  • Proven estimating experience within steelwork / metalwork / fabrication.
  • Technical knowledge of structural designs and materials for relevant industries
  • Good level of numeracy and grammar
  • Detailed knowledge of all relevant Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality requirements
  • Time management skills enabling multiple tender enquiry management
  • Commercial awareness of the goals of the company
  • Ability to seek out additional project work
  • Excellent phone manner both internal and external
  • Computer literacy including Microsoft Office particularly Excel
  • Competent user of Exchequer system 
  • Good communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels

Key Responsibilities

  • The Steelwork Estimator will review technical drawings and initial scope of works for all enquiries.
  • Ensure all relevant industry standards and procedures are available for enquiries.
  • Develop a bill of quantity for all steelwork and associated products within a given tender.
  • Forecast fabrication, metal finish and installation requirements of projects.
  • Ensure any formal programs for the project received from customers are filed with tenders, to allow successful project management.
  • Consider all Health & Safety, Environmental and Quality management systems requirements for tenders.
  • Produce final tender documents including full cost base and scope of works.
  • Update the Enquiry Management Access database with all relevant information.
  • Make projects live on Exchequer when orders are confirmed.
  • Store tender related documents on the T: drive within the customer related directories.
  • Liaising with clients to confirm works and attending sites to complete surveys when necessary.
  • Agreeing specifications of work with clients and making adequate notes to enable the manufacture and installation of projects.
  • Periodically contacting customers to chase up tender acceptance.

Duties of an Electrical Maintenance Engineer

As an Electrical Maintenance Engineer, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Undertaking both planned and reactive maintenance tasks to a wide range of plant and equipment.

Role Overview

This is an important role within the Supply Chain Team - it requires a committed and customer focused individual with a supplier centric approach to global multi-site manufacturing. As part of a small team, the business requires an experienced Buyer - Manufacturing to bring professionalism and critical thinking to the Purchasing Department. A critical part of the company growth strategy will be focused on the ability of the department to evolve the existing supply chain and remain agile.

The right candidate is expected to be confident in buying for all areas but will specifically need to be familiar and confident with manufacturing procurement.

  • Effective communication of any parts availability risk ensuring that all options to resolve any availability concern is fully explored and appropriate action taken.

This is a great opportunity to join them in a key role as Technical Support Engineer, where you would provide a proactive, effective, and efficient technical service and customer complaint root cause analysis function within the business. To make a successful Technical Support Engineer you will be a very driven individual with a proven track record in a technical electro / mechanical fault-finding and Service work whilst also being able to lead and develop a small team. Experience with an ERP system such as SAP is essential along with a minimum of HNC in Mechanical or Electronics. Other key duties involve:

  • Co-ordinate all activities within the Service / CCF department such as primary investigations, and corrective action
  • Processing customer enquiries for mechanical, electrical, documentation and testing requirements according to agreed procedures.
  • Quotations for service work and spares to the required specifications.
  • The requirement of quick response times to customer complaint enquiries is essential to sales companies and end customers, therefore the role is measured against agreed KPIs.
  • Ensure primary inspections are completed in accordance with department service level agreements and that technical clarity is assured.
  • Manage end to end all customer complaint investigations through to root cause and prepare suitable technical reports.
