Role Function

The Materials Controller provides leadership, vision, direction and focus to the Planning, Production Control, and Shipping and Receiving Materials Control Functions to ensure the right material arrives at the point of fit at the right time, whilst ensuring that inventory levels are kept to a minimum in line with set targets.

Materials Controller Candidate Requirements

  • Proven experience in a fast paced, busy material control role. 
  • Good understanding of MRP.
  • Minimum of 5 GCSE qualifications or equivalent.
  • Project management skills, including the ability to produce and work to timing plans.
  • Understanding of modern material control processes.
  • The Materials Controller will take responsibility for resolution of issue, to communicate effectively at all levels within the organisation and externally and to be self-motivated and results oriented.
  • Possess good analytical skills and have the ability to think creatively. A team player with good interpersonal skills.
  • Be able to work under pressure and to time constraints. Flexibility and adaptability. A logical thinker. Ability to retain composure during tough times.

Materials Controller Key Responsibilities (but not limited to)

  • Assess & take necessary action re shortage & material at risk reports (trial kits) on a daily basis and feedback information to Materials, Planning and Logistics Manager, ie. re-dating orders and pulling in material as necessary to support build.
  • The Materials Controller will communicate with designated suppliers on a daily basis in order to expedite material in to support right first time build and hold out unnecessary material to control inventory levels.
  • Run & take necessary action re due & overdue report contacting suppliers. Work closely with the transport coordinator to arrange transports where needed.
  • Support Purchasing to implement inventory improvement policies which support right first time build whilst at the same time controlling the level of inventory ie sequencing/improved packaging/ Kanbans etc. - changing system parameters as required and communicating same to respective suppliers.
  • Conduct physical inventory checks on high value & critical components to understand accuracy and ensure continuity of supply. 
  • Leading and driving ECN Changes across the business. Working closely with Program and Production teams to ensure the smooth introduction of new products for safe launch into the business
  • Investigate the cause of shortages & liaise with the Lean Team & other affected areas of the business. 5S audit work area & maintain required standard, ensure zero shortages & overdue orders on product line.

CNC Grinder Pay and Hours

  • Salary, including shift allowance: £27,000 - £36,000 (dependant on experience and capability)
  • 37 hours per week, double day shift working pattern.

Early Shift – 6:00am - 2:00pm Mon-Thurs and 6:00am – 12:00pm on Friday
Late Shift – 2:00pm – 00:00am Mon-Wed and 2:00pm – 10:20pm on Thursday (there is no shift on a Friday when working lates, so you only do a four-day week)

CNC Grinder Role Overview

  • Due to growth, the business has a position available for an experienced CNC Grinder.

  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Previous experience in a similar position.
  • Aerospace experience is desirable.
